Over two days, our expert judging panel taste tasted more than 30 different chocolate Easter eggs from 10 national supermarkets to bring you our definitive list of top buys for Easter 2025.
We did a completely blind test by removing all packaging before presenting the eggs to the judges. Comments and a score out of 10 was then submitted for each product in the category via anonymous online judging forms. The entire judging process was overseen by an independent adjudicator.
Read on to find out which dark, milk, white, vegan and miniature chocolate eggs we loved, plus our top picks for kids and sweets if you’re not a chocolate fan.
For the full list of winners, including the best hot cross buns, visit our full Easter Taste Awards results. For more Easter egg inspiration, we’ve also chosen non-supermarket best Easter eggs to buy, from Lindt and Cadbury to luxury options. Plus, we’ve picked the best Easter table decoration ideas, from plateware to candles, to make the perfect tablescape if you’re entertaining.
Best milk chocolate egg
Winner: Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Belgian Milk Chocolate Tiramisu Egg
This elegant, grown-up egg has a tall, swirled design. The strong coffee flavour balances well with the creamy milk chocolate, with biscuit pieces adding satisfying crunch.
Available from:
Sainsbury’s (£10)

Highly commended: Lidl Deluxe Salted Caramel Milk Chocolate Layered Egg
This looks very plain from the outside but has a secret caramel filling. The hidden layer of thick gooey caramel combined with creamy milk chocolate makes it quite sweet overall, but we would still go back for more and is an innovation we hadn’t seen before in other Easter eggs.
Available from:
Lidl, in-store
Best dark chocolate egg

Winner: Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Belgian Dark Chocolate Egg with Sea Salt
A good dark chocolate for an Easter egg, this has a really smooth texture, subtle balanced bitterness and hint of salt. A complex, grown up egg.
Available from:
Sainsbury’s (£10)
Highly commended: M&S Collection Belgian Dark Chocolate Egg with Scottish Raspberry Truffles
This has a modern geometric shape. The dark chocolate and raspberry are balanced well, with almost floral notes coming from little bursts of raspberry studded throughout. The chocolate also has good texture and melts well.
Available from:
M&S, £12 in-store
Best vegan egg
Winner: Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Free From Extra Thick Rocky Road Egg
This chocolate has a good thickness, studded with crunchy biscuit pieces and fluffy marshmallows to add interest. The chocolate is sweet and has a simple ridged design on the outside.
Available from:
Sainsbury’s (£8.50)
Best alternative flavour egg

Winner: M&S Collection Extra Thick Pistachio & Milk Chocolate Egg
Thick chocolate and a generous amount of crunchy pistachio pieces giving strong nutty flavour made this a winner, with a creamy inner layer for sweeter balance.
Available from:
Ocado (£20)

Highly commended: Lidl Caramelised Biscuit Milk Chocolate Layered Egg
This has a plain appearance but hides a hidden layer of spiced biscuit-flavour cream inside. Fans of Biscoff will love this, combined with thick and creamy milk chocolate.
Available from:
Lidl, in-store
Best novelty shape egg
Joint winner: Waitrose No.1 The Chocolate Croissant
Although no real croissant is involved in the flavour, the fun design here still won us over. The blonde chocolate is a lovely alternative to the classic and wafer pieces add a buttery flavour and texture, reminiscent of flaky croissants.
Available from:
Waitrose (£15)
Best chocolate bunny
Joint winner: M&S Baby Bunny
Under the pretty wrapping, this glossy chocolate bunny has a sweet design. The thick chocolate is creamy and sweet – milk chocolate fans will love.
Available from:
Ocado (£3)
Joint winner: Waitrose Hip Hop Harri
A quirky cartoon-style design, this combines a creamy milk chocolate bunny with white chocolate carrot. A great choice for kids.
Available from:
Waitrose (£7)
