It may be only September, but Christmas is already officially underway in the land of retail. And, like a dusting of fresh snow, M&S’s festive food range has starting landing in Foodhalls nationwide this week, with more than 300 new products and hundreds of returning favourites hitting shelves before the big day.
But, there's one festive must-buy making a comeback this year that's already on our list: M&S’s famous dark chocolate & chilli tortillas. After months of fans speculating whether or not they'd return, today, they're back.
Priced at £3.30 per 150g bag, the gluten-free snack sees crunchy tortilla chips seasoned with habanero chilli before being coated in rich dark chocolate. While some might consider this combination a little strange, we think they've developed such a loyal following thanks to the sweet-spicy balance of flavours. Each bite is satisfyingly salty with plenty of crunch, followed by sweet yet deep dark chocolate and a warming background note of chilli – it's a moreish 'swicy' combination that sits somewhere between a festive treat and party snack.
These follow the return of Co-op's popular festive roast potato crisps this week, and we expect to see many more wonderful (and maybe a few weird!) flavours popping up elsewhere in the coming weeks.
You might wonder how or when to serve a chocolate-coated crisp, but they're great alongside salted nuts and savoury nibbles, as the chilli seasoning really shines. They're also a fun addition to your Christmas cheeseboard, particularly when paired with a creamy cheese to balance the chocolate and spice. Or, try breaking them over vanilla ice cream, scattering them over brownies or baking the crushed tortillas into cookies.
What other M&S Christmas snacks are launching today?
The dark chocolate & chilli tortillas are joined by a new churro-inspired snack, M&S's cinnamon churros twists (£1.70). Crisp pretzel twists are coated in cinnamon sugar, combining the malty crunch of pretzels with the sweetness of a churro. They’re designed for sharing, but we wouldn't judge you for finishing the bag yourself!
You'll also find Belgian milk chocolate coated crispy chilli peanuts (£3), which feature crunchy, spicy peanuts covered in Belgian milk chocolate, and the return of the milk chocolate & cinnamon tortilla rolls (£3.30), which first made waves on social media in 2024. The popular hot maple popcorn (£2) is also back, and we think all three snacks would make a great addition to a party spread.
With so many treats to choose from, why not mix and match them to make a large sweet grazing board for friends and family? It would be ideal for a Christmas party or festive film night.
